Air India demands $840m for 787 delay

Air India has asked that Boeing increase its payout for the delay of the 787 Dreamliner.

The carrier has requested $840m in compensation, up from the $710m it demanded a year ago. The airline has also asked that its pre-delivery payment of $240m be returned with interest. Air India’s parent, The National Aviation Company, had ordered 27 787-800 aircraft, delivery of which was postponed from May 2008 with the first aircraft now expected in early 2011. Air India, which has not posted a profit since 2007, has said that the delay has left it with additional costs.
