Air Tanzania looks to Canada to finance fleet growth
The East African reports that Air Tanzania Company (ATCL) is seeking $500m to purchase eight new medium- and long-range aircraft to boost flights to both domestic and international destinations.
The aircraft will be a mixture of new and used, for cost reasons. Export Development Canada (EDC) has entered into discussions with the airline and will review ATCL’s five-year strategic plan before potentially offering assistance with financing. A long-term loan would be used to buy regional jets from Bombardier. ATCL has the support of the Tanzanian Government in its latest efforts to make a comeback from years of decline.
