Environmental industry members highlight urgency in developing low-carbon fuel technology
Governments have their heads in the sand when it comes to oil, a number of industry analysts have warned. “It is down to Government to steer us towards a de-fossilised economy using the regulatory and financial incentives available. The technologies do already exist to deliver low carbon transport, but we need to incentivise the private sector to deliver these solutions to the market place,” cautioned David King, director of the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment. Speaking prior to a conference to be held by the school, Oliver Inderwildi, lead author of the Future of Mobility Roadmap report, warned that the era of cheap oil is soon to end. He says there needs to be a smooth transition to implementing new low-carbon fuel technology, and that governments must let the market “help decide the best option”.
