Research to focus on reducing airport emissions
Project Performance Corporation (PPC), the American arm of AEA Group, has signed a contract with the US Transportation Research Board to investigate ways to reduce airport emissions. The research will focus on establishing how much airports contribute to fine particulate (PM2.5) emissions and the effect this has on ambient local air quality. The research will also evaluate the effect that alternative fuels may have on reducing the impact of airport-related emissions. PM2.5 emissions are finer and therefore associated with greater risks than larger PM10 inhalable particles. The work is being undertaken for the Transportation Research Board Airport Cooperative Research Program project Alternative Fuels as a Means to Reduce PM2.5 Emissions at Airports. The $500,000 project will last for 16 months.
