US and EU reach "historic" liberalisation deal
The United States and the European Union have agreed to further liberalise the transatlantic aviation market, and appear to have outlined a path allowing the foreign ownership of airlines in the near future.
The deal also reiterated the importance of close transatlantic co-operation on aviation environmental matters and in advancing a global sectoral approach to green issues. The agreement is an expansion of the 2007 US-EU Open-Skies agreement that is already in place.
